Background on Barrett Deems

For those who are not aware, Barrett Deems (March 1, 1914–September 15, 1998) has been playing jazz based drums since the age of 5. At the age of 84, he was still playing at least one gig a week, mainly in his home town of Illinois. His speed drumming technique was even featured in a movie made in 1956 called "High Society". with Bing Cosby. He attests his success to his drumming as continious practice.

Hi and thanks for visiting my blog on the legendary speed drummer Barrett Deems. I suppose you are curious as to where the footage came from? In my youth, I was hooked on collecting various pieces of music footage, small and large. I always had a tape handy that was ready at the right spot to start recording something of interest to me.

Recently, I stumbled across my collection (which is quite large) and as a project, I began to convert all the recordings onto DVD format and onto YouTube for other to enjoy. I feel that this particular footage of the legendary speed drummer is of excellent quality and was recorded around 1993- 1994 from Australia, during an Australian tour. So, with the power of the internet and blogging, For all you Barrett Deems, my collection is open to the public for all to enjoy. Watch out for more as I convert all my tapes to DVD.
